Logo Description

In line with its motto, Berilmu Berbakti (With Knowledge We Serve), Universiti Putra Malaysia fully supports the Ministry of Education Malaysia’s aspiration to prepare students as public intellectuals who contribute to society through Service Learning Malaysia (SULAM) – “University for Society”. This support is reflected in the SULAM-UPM initiative organised by a working committee that regulates the administration of SULAM at UPM. The SULAM-UPM logo is designed to represent the main aspirations underlying SULAM-UPM, with its main image made up of a sketch of three leaf-like shapes. The design reflects UPM’s unique identity as a university which historically began as a college of agriculture. Each leaf-like shape is given a different colour to represent the three main components of SULAM, namely, academic, student and community. The three leaf-like shapes overlap, to draw attention to a blue “meeting area”, depicting a combination of the three major components of SULAM - academic, student and community. The blue colour is chosen to symbolise the harmonious combination of the three components. The sketch is placed above the word “SULAM” as a symbol which promotes the philosophy of “Service Learning Malaysia”. Below the word “SULAM” are UPM's motto Berilmu Berbakti (With Knowledge We Serve) and the name “Universiti Putra Malaysia” to illustrate UPM's support for SULAM.
