Grant Information

 

Introduction

 

In order to promote research activities in teaching and learning, the University Management Committee (Jawatankuasa Pengurusan Universiti, JPU) at the JPU Meeting Bil.429 on 1 February 2012 [Minit 429.05 (k) (v)] has approved the recommendation of the Center for Academic Development (CADe) to allocate the Research Incentive Grant for Teaching and Learning (GIPP).

GIPP is an initiative to improve the quality and effectiveness of T&L through research activities. In addition, the grant is intended to contribute ideas and expertise in the formulation of T&L policies. Research findings can be used as a basis for strategic planning related to university’s T&L, but also impact UPM/ students as the Goal 1 UPM to enhance the quality and competitiveness of graduates.

 

Objectives

 

  1. Encourage efforts to improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning through research activities.
  2. Contribute ideas and expertise in the development/ formulation of policies related to teaching and learning.
  3. Strengthen cooperation, commitment and skills development in teaching and learning.
  4. Adding scientific publications related to teaching and learning among UPM academic staff.

 

Criteria of Applicants

 

  1. All UPM academic staffs are eligible to apply on condition that the research project is conducted in collaboration between the faculties.
  2. Academic staffs (contract) should collaborate with permanent academic staffs/ researchers.
  3. Academic staffs (non-citizen status) must collaborate with academic staffs/ researchers with the status of Malaysian citizens and permanent.

 

Criteria of Assessments

 

Each research proposal is evaluated by two panel based on the following criteria:

  1. Research focuses on improving the quality of teaching and learning.
  2. Description of background research including literature review.
  3. Ability to achieve research objectives.
  4. The suitability of the research methodology.
  5. The suitability of the research budget with the proposed activity.
  6. Expectation of research results meets objectives.
  7. The suitability of the research period is in line with the objective of the study.
  8. Research findings provide impact/ benefit to teaching and learning at UPM/ institutions of higher learning.
  9. Research findings help address problems related to teaching and learning.
  10. Ability to contribute to impact factor publication.
  11. Potential to be commercialized.

  1. Development of innovation practices in teaching and learning that can be applied to other courses;
  2. Development of soft skills assessment instruments and affective domains;
  3. Innovative assessment strategies and methods to produce students who are critical thinking and able to think at a high level;
  4. Course teaching strategies to develop students with entrepreneurial thinking attributes; and
  5. Strategies to cultivate the spirit of patriotism, love of Malaysia and the spirit of unity among the people through courses/ study programs.

 

2017

 

  1. Learning design;
  2. Heutagogy;
  3. Authentic assessment; and
  4. Flexible learning.

 

Starting in 2017, the GIPP initiative was expanded to collaborative research between faculties in an effort to strengthen the generation of theory, new ideas, expertise especially for academic staffs who choose teaching tracks. Areas of collaborative research between faculties focus on the following:

  1. Curriculum and Content Innovation;
  2. Innovation of Teaching and Learning Strategies/ Techniques;
  3. Innovation of Teaching and Learning Activities; and
  4. Innovation of Assessment and Evaluation of Teaching and Learning.

 

2018

 

  1. A transformative curriculum towards 21st century higher education;
  2. Virtual/ blended/ face-to-face immersive learning innovation;
  3. Alternative assessments;
  4. Development of information management systems to support smart campuses; and
  5. Redesign of learning space.

 

2019

 

Development of teaching and learning innovations from previous GIPP research projects.

 

2020

 

  1. Cross-disciplinary curriculum content innovation;
  2. Virtual/ blended/ face-to-face immersive learning innovation;
  3. Community based Learning/ Service-Learning based teaching strategies;
  4. Work based Learning - based teaching strategies; and
  5. Authentic Assessment.

 

2021

 

  1. Cross-disciplinary curriculum content innovation;
  2. Virtual teaching and learning innovation;
  3. Service-Learning based teaching strategies (SULAM/ e-SULAM); and
  4. Virtual holistic Assessment.

 

2023

 

       i. Flexible Curriculum Development:

  1. Convergence of disciplines; multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary;
  2. Global learning and diversity;
  3. EXCEL Framework: Industrial Experienced Learning (IDEAL); Community Resilience Experiential Learning (CARE); Research Infused Experiential Learning (REAL); and Personalised Experiential Learning (POISE).

 

      ii. Transformative Teaching and Learning Delivery:

  1. Online learning (eg: hybrid learning, micro-credentials, MOOC);
  2. Virtual and augmented reality based learning;
  3. Experience based learning;
  4. Personalised learning; and
  5. Artificial intelligence and data analytics in teaching and learning.

 

     iii. Alternative Assessment:

  1. Authentic assessment; and
  2. Integrated assessment.
