Twenty-first century educators not only need to be creative and innovative in teaching-learning but also be competent in assessing the intended learning outcomes (LOs) of a course. To assess the intended LOs objectively and holistically, a rubric is a powerful tool to use. So what is a rubric? It is a tool comprising a set of criteria (with possible levels of performance quality on the criteria) developed to assess any kind of student work, from written to oral to visual. The focus of this workshop is on rubrics for student learning. The ultimate goal of this workshop is to help you design and create a rubric that will benefit you as an educator and your students.
Upon completion of the training, the participants will be able to: 1) differentiate the various types of rubrics; 2) evaluate the suitability of rubrics for the intended assessment tasks; and 3) design and develop a rubric.
