HIGH-IMPACT EDUCATIONAL PRACTICE: THE INTEGRATED DESIGN PROJECT

19 March 2021 (Friday) / 09.00 am - 10.30 am

Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samsuzana Abd Aziz
Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia

Moderator: Dr. Ahmad Salahuddin Mohd Harithuddin
Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia

The Integrated Design Project, or IDP, is a culminating experience that requires students nearing the end of their academic programme to create a project that integrates and applies what they’ve learned.

The IDP, a.k.a capstone course, is one of the high-impact educational practices that have been widely tested and have been shown to be beneficial for college students from many backgrounds.

In this webinar, Assc. Prof. Dr. Samsuzana Abd Aziz, the IDP Coordinator for the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, will describe IDP in the context of engineering education, and share her valuable experience on its best practices. The speaker will also demonstrate how industries can take part in enriching students' learning experience in the programme.

Outcome: To value IDP as one of the high-impact educational practices in UPM and to relate its best practices to other academic programmes.

PUTRABLAST IN THE NEW NORM: GOING HYBRID

19 March 2021 (Friday) / 10.30 am - 12.00 pm

Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohammad Yazdi Harmin
Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia

Moderator: Dr. Ahmad Salahuddin Mohd Harithuddin
Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia

A new norm requires a new approach. Now with some of the students are back on campus, how do we cater to both face-to-face and online learning effectively? This webinar will demonstrate on how we can apply PutraBLAST for our hybrid teaching where some individuals participate face-to-face and some participate online.

The goal is to apply the right mix of PutraBlast tools and learning techniques to effectively teach the content and meet the learning needs of students.

We understand that some courses are unique and have different requirements. Therefore, we invite participants of the webinar to also share their ideas with the rest of the Faculty.

We aim to make this a platform for discourse on how to best teach our students during this pandemic crisis. The semester is going to start soon. See you in Zoom.

Outcome: To share and discuss ideas and practices of blended/hybrid learning in engineering education.
